Times Brings Back Tech Grid Writer

Michael Niziolek

For those who hadn't noticed, The Roanoke Times' Virginia Tech football reporter is back with the paper. He was one of nine newsroom employees to be laid off April 12 in the most recent round of down-sizing at the local daily.

However, when veteran medical reporter Luanne Rife decided to take the buyout offered more senior staffers, it opened the way to bring Michael Niziolek back from journalism's wasteland.

Upon learning of the layoff, he Tweeted, "I know this is commonplace in this industry and so many journalists have been through this, just devastating, loved this job & honestly in state of shock."

It's good to see a journalist getting a break.
